Nelly Bay is home to Magnetic Island's largest infastructure development, Magnetic Harbour, also know as Nelly Bay Harbour. The development comprises of a new ferry and barge terminal, an emergency services helipad, retail service, and mixed residential throughout the project.

Currently, Magnetic Harbour is the arrival and departure point for ferries and barges leaving to and from Townsville, with numerous services each day between both ferry operator, Sunferries, and car and passenger barge operator, Riverside Marine. The Harbour is also going under major development with numerous apartment and accommodation complexes currently under construction there.
