West Point is the nearest point to the mainland and is believed that hundreds of years ago
Aboriginies used to be able to walk across from Townsville at low tide.
To reach West Point you must go by foot or Four Wheel Drive vehicle. On the track, which starts
behind Picnic Bay, you will encounter tidal wetlands, mangroves and salt water swamps, grasslands
and paperbark trees. Don't forget the insect repellant
The flora and fauna are totally different in this area, to the eastern side and makes the journey rewarding.
